American Legion Post 75
Scholarship
Purpose
The American Legion Post 75 located in Geneva, IL in order to assist and support local students in their pursuit of education is proud to be able to offer scholarships to financially assist students attending an accredited college, university, or trade school.
Four scholarships will be awarded annually – one for $1000 and three for $500. Checks will be paid directly to the scholarship recipients.
Awards will be evaluated on the basis of calculated scores of scholarship, leadership, character, and the financial needs of the applicant.
The application deadline is December 31, and the scholarship recipients will be notified by January 15th the following year.
Eligibility
Scholarships are available to students who meet the following criteria
Students must be accepted to or currently attending an accredited college, university, or trade school.
and
Has a family member that is a current member of American Legion Post 75.
or
Is the immediate family member of a military veteran that is a Geneva, IL resident that was killed or suffered a disability of 50% as determined by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.
or
Has actively donated 10 or more hours of volunteer service to Post 75.
Application
All applications must be accompanied by the following:
- FAFSA form showing family finances.
- Applicant resume.
- One letter of recommendation from a community leader such as a minister, teacher, scout leader, or elected official.
- One letter of recommendation from a family friend or neighbor.
- A copy of ACT/SAT score
- High School and/or College Transcripts.

Scholarship Committee
Three members of American Legion Post 75 will independently review all applications and will each assign a score for the 4 criteria areas. The combined scores will determine the award recipients.
All documentation collected that contains personal and financial information will be safely handled and disposed of properly at the end of the committee review.
